Board Election 2024

I have served on the Sask Canola board for the past 4 years. I have witnessed the incredible passion and excellence the board and staff bring to the table to defend the interests of canola producers. As producers we all work extremely hard on our farms carrying an unprecedented amount of risk. I want to ensure we are fairly compensated for the intense labor and investment we put into our farms against the forces that want to diminish the value of our production. In the next four years I believe we need to focus on:

Promotion – In Ontario olive oil sales beat canola sales in volume and value. Why is this? We need to do better. I hope to continue to sit on the National Canola Marketing Program board to augment canola oil usage in Canada.

Renewable Diesel – Canola oil can supply an alternative fuel source to reduce GHG emissions and help decarbonize the transportation sector. Saskatchewan has over 40% of farmable land in Canada. Renewable diesel emits 90% less carbon than regular diesel.  There is an ocean of opportunities for us to add value to canola here.

Regulations – We need to defend our industry from radical left wing, unscientific, green peace like institutions that seek to restrict our production and compound our paperwork. “Farm to Forks” in Europe - a disaster. “Responsible Grain” in Canada - unworkable. GIFS data illustrates 67% less GHG emissions than global average on canola fields. We are the lungs of Canada sinking carbon. Let the science lead.

Foreign Trade – 90% of our canola is exported. Our trade with the US is great but we need to ensure we have stable predicable markets in other countries. Our farms suffer when we become the whipping boy of China with their unsubstantiated trade disputes. We need to work with the CCC to stabilize foreign trade.

I have a BComm in Marketing. I have sat on these boards: Bruno Feed Mill, Norelkco Nutraceuticals, Local Church, Local School, Scouts Canada.  Our farm produces canola, peas, cereals, beef, pork and eggs.
