Canola Sustainability

Sustainability means continually improving environmental, economic and social wellbeing for future generations while meeting global demand for canola oil and protein.

The Canadian canola industry is guided by three pillars of sustainability:

Environmental Sustainability

Canola growers understand that taking care of the land and other natural resources is vital to the future of agriculture.

They recognize the importance of improving soil and water health, lowering carbon emissions and increasing sequestration, using land more efficiently, reducing energy use, and protecting biodiversity.

Economic Sustainability

Canola is Canada’s most valuable crop. It drives Canada’s economic engine, creates revenue, and contributes to employment.

The industry is focused on providing stable, good paying jobs, injecting billions of dollars in the economy, increasing yield through investment in research and development, building capacity for value added processing, and bolstering ports to deliver canola to global markets.

Social Sustainability

Canola contributes to healthy diets, healthy people, and a healthy planet. It is a nutritious, affordable oil that supports global food security and rural community prosperity.

Keep it Coming 2025

The canola industry’s shared goal is supporting continued expansion by increasing product demand, ensuring market stability, and supporting grower success – achieving an average yield of 52 bu/ac to meet global market demand of 26 million metric tonnes by the year 2025.
