SaskOilseeds Announces $781,432 Commitment to 8 New Research Projects
January 15, 2025 – During the Sask Crops Forum, Saskatchewan’s Minister of Agriculture, Daryl Harrison, announced a combined total investment of $14.8 million to support crop-related research in 2025. This funding, allocated through Saskatchewan’s Agriculture Development Fund (ADF) under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (S-CAP), will support 53 research projects. As part of this initiative, SaskOilseeds is proud to announce its commitment of $781,432 to support 8 new research projects over the next 4 years. These projects, funded through the ADF, aim to develop solutions to emerging challenges that limit production and value-added processing.
The variety of canola research projects funded through ADF includes:
Wei Xiao, U of S – Generating next-generation clubroot resistant canola varieties with advanced gene editing technologies ($95,738)
Angela Bedard-Haughn, U of S – A Sustainable Future for the Saskatchewan Soil Information System (SKSIS) ($22,667)
Angela Bedard-Haughn, U of S – Mapping Soil Carbon Sequestration in Saskatchewan Cropland ($121,440)
Wei Xiao, U of S – Develop verticillium stripe disease management strategy in canola ($155,250)
Fengqun Yu, AAFC – Developing technologies and resources to gain an accurate view of Canadian populations of Plasmodiophora brassicae ($183,330)
Jennifer Town, AAFC – Cumulative effects of long-term dual-inhibitor N-fertilizer use on yield, N20 emissions and soil microbiome function ($29,081)
Tyler Wist, AAFC – Forecasting the impacts of pest insects on Canadian Prairie crops to generate integrated pest management support tools ($53,368)
Steven Shirtliffe, U of S – Plots Without Borders: Optimizing Methodology to Conduct On-Farm Research ($120,559)
