Amidst a Rail Strike at Harvest: SaskOilseeds Continues to Advocate

August 21, 2024 - The impending dual railway strike is an unprecedented and very complex issue.

Without adequate rail service, the grain handling system backs up, elevators and canola processing plants fill up and stop accepting grain into their facilities, and in turn, farmers lose the ability to sell their crops to generate the necessary cash flow to manage their farm operations.

Over 90% of canola grown in Canada is exported by rail, and the industry relies on efficient, predictable and timely rail service.

Actions Taken:

As harvest progresses, SaskOilseeds will make every effort to tirelessly advocate for an end to this work stoppage. With our national partners at CCC, CCGA and Grain Growers of Canada, we are working to escalate a strong message to all parties involved to reduce the serious implications that this standstill will have on grain and livestock farmers across the country.
