Leadership

SaskCanola invests in building leadership capacity for Saskatchewan agriculture by hosting an annual leadership workshop. In addition, SaskCanola bestows the Canola Influencer Award annually to a deserving canola industry leader.

Learn to Lead

About: Learn to Lead, hosted by SaskCanola, and sponsored by supporting commissions in Saskatchewan, is a personal and professional development program to build leadership capacity among farmers and create future leaders for the agriculture industry. Learn to Lead sponsors are SaskBarley, SaskOats, Saskatchewan Pulse Growers and SaskWheat.

Curriculum: A broad range of sessions provide participants with a strong foundational base for building leadership skills. Topics covered in the program include: teamwork, etiquette, networking, communication, governance, decision-making, media relations, juggling responsibilities and managing stress.

How to Apply: Learn to Lead is open to all interested Saskatchewan registered producers (levy payers) from all crop commodities who are actively contributing to their farm livelihood directly or indirectly in supporting roles. Interested participants are requested to complete and submit an application form. Applicants who are selected receive complimentary registration valued at $2,500. The deadline for Learn to Lead applications is September 22, 2023.

Learn to Lead Alumni: Learn to Lead has been developing agriculture leaders in Saskatchewan since 2016. To date, more than 100 people have participated in the program. Many continue to be involved through alumni events that provide opportunities to further build relationships, skills, and knowledge. As a Learn to Lead Alumnus, you will become part of an exclusive group of advocates. Many have used their Learn to Lead experience to enhance their AG involvement through participating on the boards of various organizations and commissions, becoming social media thought leaders, or developing value-added businesses. SaskCanola has called on Learn to Lead Alumni to participate in focus groups, represent SaskCanola in media interviews, and provide feedback on policy issues and research investments.
